AbstractThe results of macrosurveys carried out in the southern Sea of Okhotsk and ocean waters around
the Kuril Islands in JulyAugust 1995 are summarized. The composition of plankton and nekton in that period
is compared with that in 1991 and 1993. It is concluded that the fraction of predatory plankton in 1994 and 1995
was smaller than in the early 1990s in almost all areas studied. In the nekton, the density of walleye pollack
decreased, and the abundance of herring increased. The overall biomass of salmon remained large.
