Abstract—The oceanographic situation and the results of planktonic and nektonic surveys in the northern Sea
of Okhotsk in the autumn of 1994 are considered. Nekton biomass was estimated at 6 457 000 t, with walleye
pollock comprising 52.7% and herring 36.0%. Zooplankton biomass in the 0–200 m layer was estimated at
95 800 000 t, with macroplankton making up 64 900 000 t.
