Letter to the Editorial Staff of the Journal Pochvovedenie

Dear readers, members of the editorial board, and staff editors of the journal Pochvovedenie.

On December 19, 2006, the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences granted my request for res-
ignation and released me from the duties of the editor-in-chief of the journal. In this context, I would like to
express my sincere and deep gratitude to all the members of the editorial board and staff editors of the jour-
nal for their many years of concerted and fruitful work. This enabled us to preserve the best traditions of our
world-renown journal in difficult years of reform. The journal’s important role in the development of soil
science was highly praised by the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Academy of Agricultural Sci-
ences, International Union of Soil Sciences, and many other scientific societies and scientists, as well as by
the Publishing House Nauka and the International Academic Publishing Company Nauka/Interperiodica,
during the celebration of the centennial anniversary of the journal in 1999.

It is evident that our successes would have been impossible without close cooperation with the authors
and readers of the journal, Nauka, and Nauka/Interperiodica.

I would like to thank everybody for their endeavors and to wish the journal new success and progress in
the development of Russian and world soil science.

Academician G.V. Dobrovol’skii
