Abstract—Results of comprehensive experimental hydrophysical and hydrochemical studies of deep-sea
municipal wastewater discharge to the marine environment are presented. Relationships between variations in
the rates of physical dilution, destruction of unstable organic matter contained in municipal wastewater, and uti-
lization of biogenic compounds by phytoplankton are determined. The contribution of physical dilution and uti-
lization of ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, and phosphates to the process of marine environment self-puri-
fication is estimated for different depths of wastewater discharge.
