Abstract—The changes in population of Baikal amphipod Pallasea cancellus (Pallas) from four remote local
populations is described by comparing 21 morphological features. The population changes of individuals of dif-
ferent sexes, which allows the geographical variability of sexual dimorphism to be found, is shown. The mor-
phological differences between crustaceans inhabiting different parts of Lake Baikal and the Angara River were
estimated more precisely by analyzing the principal components. The junction between northwestern and
southeastern population groups (which may be considered geographical allopatric races) was found.
