Abstract—A procedure for the adaptation of the model of water flow in soil is suggested. This procedure
includes (1) the use of hydrological constants of soil as model parameters, (2) the use of water content in each
layer and cumulative outflow from the bottom boundary of these layers as variables, and (3) the adjustment of
models to the measured water content by changing hydrological constants and to the measured outflow by
changing the filtration coefficient. Among the statistical criteria of model adequacy examined, we recommend
the use of the averaged square of error for revealing the degree of model accuracy and the analysis of the coef
ficients of the dependence of model error on experimental data for assessing the systematic error of the model.
