Abstract—A definition for biomorph analysis is suggested. The structure and the placement of biomorph anal
ysis in the general system of the morphological study of soil are discussed. The main objects of analysis—bio
morphs (phytoliths, spores and pollen, diatoms, sponge spicules, etc.)—are characterized with respect to their
diagnostic features and methods of data interpretation. The need to include biomorphic studies into the general
system of pedogenetic investigations is substantiated.
