Abstract—It is shown that wind erosion (deflation) is widespread in the Lake Baikal region, especially in the
zone of chestnut soils that are actively used in agriculture. Soil deflation leads to a sharp decline in the fertility
of chestnut soils and changes considerably their microbiological characteristics.
