AbstractIt is shown that wind erosion (deflation) is widespread in the Lake Baikal region, especially in the
zone of chestnut soils that are actively used in agriculture. Soil deflation leads to a sharp decline in the fertility
of chestnut soils and changes considerably their microbiological characteristics.
