Abstract—It is proposed to distinguish the concepts of resilience and buffering for the soil as an open system
in nonequilibrium conditions. It was shown on experimental data that buffering parameters determined in a
closed system could be used for the evaluation of the barrier function of soils with respect to heavy metals.
