Abstract—The influence of mechanochemical treatment (MCT) and modification of Al particles on the process of technological combustion in aluminothermic SiO2–Al mixtures was studied by XRD, SEM/EDS, and pyrometrically. Graphite, polyvinyl alcohol, and stearic acid were used as modifiers. Combined use of modifiers and MCT was found to markedly increase combustion temperature and burning velocity of thermite SiO2–Al compositions.
