Abstract—Operation of a flow SHS reactor was analyzed theoretically. In contrast to classical formulation of the problem for combustion in a flow (Zaidel–Zeldovich, Merzhanov–Rumanov–Khaikin), a reactor with a finite length was modeled. In approximation of high activation energy, basic parameters of the process— such as temperature within the reaction zone, separation between reaction zone and reactor inlet, heat flux through the reactor inlet, and minimal admissible reactor length—were estimated by numerical calculations in terms of steady-state and nonstationary models. Some aspects of practical implementation of flow SHS reactors were discussed, including spatial stabilization of combustion zone within the reactor.
