Abstract—High sensitivity of the initial polymerization rate to the dilution of the reaction medium with inert
solvents and to small additives of related (alkyl (meth)acrylate) comonomers was observed in studying the rad-
ical polymerization of alkyl (meth)acrylates, such as 2-ethylhexyl and nonyl acrylates or butyl and nonyl meth-
acrylates. A tentative model of a regular associated cluster was proposed for the case of higher alkyl acrylates,
which is similar to the model of a cylindrical micelle formed by amphiphilic molecules. A calculation procedure
allowing the determination of the cluster size and its dependence on the experimental conditions was developed.
