Electric Conductivity of Polyacetylene Pyrolysis Products

AbstractFor polyacetylenes synthesized by the interphase dehydrochlorination of poly(vinyl chloride), the
electric conductivity of the pyrolysis products was studied. It was found that, for crystalline polyacetylene, the
conductivity of the pyrolysis products is higher, compared to amorphous polymer. Application of uniaxial stress
leads to an increase in the conductivity of polyacetylene pyrolysis products. The most pronounced change in
conductivity is observed for pyrolyzates of crystal polyacetylene with a high packing density of crystals. At a
fixed stress, the dependence of specific conductivity on the temperature of polymer treatment exhibits an extre-
mum. Upon stress application, the concentration of paramagnetic centers in pyrolyzed samples correlates to a
variation in their conductivity.
