Abstract—A mathematical model was developed for the investigation of the growth and development of
annual plants. The model is based on the method of response functions, which makes it possible to assess the
effects of environmental factors on the transition through the stages of plant growth and development and to
estimate such physiological characteristics as the optimum values of these factors at different stages of plant
ontogenesis, the minimum duration of development, etc.

Key words: ontogenesis - modeling - simulation experiments
