Abstract—Using a locator variant of the coherent potential approximation combined with the Hartree–Fock
approximation, a model is constructed that enables one to calculate the difference in energy between highly
symmetric crystalline modifications of alloys with allowance for magnetism. It is shown that in the Co–Ni sys-
tem, the average magnetic moment is the same almost for all types of lattice, while in the Fe–Ni system this
degeneracy is lifted abruptly in the vicinity of invar compositions, where “superstabilization” of the fcc struc-
ture is observed and the mixing energy is positive. The correlation between these effects and peculiarities of the
alloy electronic structure is discussed.
