Abstract—A theoretical investigation is conducted of the influence of hydrostatic pressure on the process of
diffusion along grain boundaries and grain-boundary migration in metallic materials. A model is proposed that
allows one to calculate the changes caused by hydrostatic pressure in the activation energy for grain-boundary
self-diffusion and in grain-boundary diffusivity. The model is based on the assumption that grain boundaries
have an island structure and that the free volume of grain boundaries is a linear function of hydrostatic pressure.
