Abstract—The bulk waves excited in a magnetostrictive medium by a nonuniform quasi-stationary electro-
magnetic field, which is produced by inductive radiators are considered (the magnetostrictive mechanism of
generation). The elastic displacements produced by the waves are calculated for arbitrary electromagnetic-to-
acoustic wavelength ratios. As the magnetic permeability, electrical conductivity of the medium, and frequency
are varied over a wide range, the efficiencies of mechanisms of generation based on the Joule and Wiedemann
effects are compared. The ranges of most efficient field conversion are found.
