Excitation of Forward Volume Magnetostatic Waves
by a Uniform High-frequency Magnetic Field

Abstract—The paper discusses the excitation of forward volume magnetostatic waves by a uniform high-fre-
quency (hf) magnetic field h in a ferromagnetic film placed in a nonuniform external magnetic field H0(r). The
spatial distribution of hf magnetization and the power flow of the excited waves are derived for the case of a
slightly nonuniform field H0(r). A parameter having the dimensions of length is introduced to characterize the
effectiveness of coupling between the hf field and the various modes of the excited waves.
