AbstractMetallography and electron microscopy were used to study microstructure of the AL5M alloy in as-
cast and heat-treated states. Effect of titanium and zirconium additions on the hypoeutectic structure of silumin
was studied. A qualitative model of the microheterogeneous structure of liquid silumin was proposed, which
explains the microstructure changes in the modified ingots as being due to changes in the structural state of the
melt.
