Abstract—It was shown using electron diffraction methods that low-temperature ordering of an L10 phase in
a disordered fcc (CuAu) matrix proceeds by nucleation of tetragonal L10 domains in {110} planes with the
c
axes of tetragonal domains lying out of the nucleation planes. At early stages of ordering, all 12 possible
domain orientations are observed. Due to interactions of elastic fields around the completely ordered domains
(within each grain), the microstructure formed at the later stage of two-phase ordering consists of domains of
four close orientations separated by regions of disordered matrix.
