Adhesion in MetalIonic-Crystal Systems

Abstract—Adhesional properties of composite systems consisting of a simple metal and an ionic crystal with
an NaCl structure is performed using the electron density-functional method. Corrections for the electron-den-
sity nonuniformity and the discrete nature of the crystal structure were taken into consideration. The interface
energy, the adhesion energy, and the forces of adhesional interaction as functions of the distance between the
surfaces of contacting materials were estimated.
