Abstract—The static properties of single- and double-vortex Bloch-type domain walls in surface-anisotropic
films are examined. It is shown that, given surface anisotropy, a certain film thickness, and a certain anisotropy
constant, either a single-vortex or a double-vortex symmetric Bloch-type domain wall can be a stable configu-
ration. The transition of a single-vortex to a double-vortex wall is investigated as a function of material param-
eters. Critical surface anisotropy constants are calculated for which a change in film thickness can cause the
transition of a double-vortex to a single-vortex domain wall only.
