Abstract—The valence and charge states of copper atoms in the CuI–As2Se3 and CuI–PbI2–As2Se3 chalco-
genide films prepared by chemical deposition from an organic solvent are investigated. It is established that, in
copper-containing chalcogenide films, the copper atom occurs in the Cu(I) state. An analogy between chalco-
genide glasses and chalcogenide glass–based films in valence state of copper atom and geometry of its sur-
roundings is revealed. The values of Q4s for films are found to be more negative with respect to those for the
CuI–As2Se3 and CuI–PbI2–As2Se3 initial glasses, which indicates an increase in density of the 4s states on the
copper atom in films.
