Abstract—The kinetics of nucleation of the sodium–zinc phosphate crystals Na2ZnP2O7 in the 10Na2O ·
57ZnO · 33P2O5 glasses is studied. The glasses are synthesized under various conditions and exhibit different
light scattering intensities. It is found that an increase in the light scattering intensity in the initial glass is
accompanied with an increase in the stationary rate of sodium–zinc phosphate crystal nucleation without
changes in temperature of the maximum nucleation rate. It is assumed that crystals nucleate at small gas bub-
bles, and their number determines the light scattering intensity in glasses.
