Abstract—An investigation is undertaken of the potassium borate system in the composition range
850mol % K2O. The phase diagram for the system is substantially revised, and the data on X-ray powder
diffraction analysis of the K2O · 3B2O3 and 5K2O · 19B2O3 compounds are refined. It is elucidated how the
dispersity affects the phase equilibria in the system. It is demonstrated that the phase diagram is constructed
more correctly when the crystalline phases with high surface energy are produced by the glass crystallization,
because the use of solid state reaction can lead to considerable errors in the diagram.
