Abstract—The method for calculating the viscosity from the data on composition and temperature for melts
in the R2O–SiO2 (R = Li, Na, or K) system is proposed. In calculations, the degree of connectivity of the sili-
con–oxygen network is taken into account. The method involves only nine fitting parameters and is applicable
to all currently studied ranges of compositions and temperatures. The results of calculation are compared with
the data obtained by different authors for several hundreds of compositions with the use of the SciGlass infor-
mation system describing the glass properties. The error of calculation is no more than that of the experiment.
