AbstractThe experimental data on the enthalpies of the mixing of oxides and oxygen ion exponents for lith-
ium borates, silicates, and germanates are compared with the electronegativities of the oxide-forming elements.
It is shown that the enthalpies of the mixing of oxides correlate well with the oxygen ion exponents and the
constants of dissociation (accompanied by the detachment of an oxygen ion) of the probable structuralchem-
ical groupings responsible for the melt structure. The prospects for applying the electronegativity concept to the
prediction of physicochemical properties of complex oxides and oxide materials are discussed.
