Abstract—Fluorophosphate glass containing 1.7 mol % of CuCl was synthesized in the xBa(PO3)2(90–
x)NaPO310AlF3 system (mol %). The excess chlorine due to the addition of two different amounts of HCl
results in a decrease in glass density indicating the introduction of chlorine in the structure and reduction of the
degree of connectivity of the glass network. In glass with a high concentration of chlorine, CuCl nanocrystals
with dimensions of about 4–4.6 nm are formed during the heat treatment near the glass transition temperature
(Tg); this is registered by the appearance and increase of exciton bands corresponding to the Z1,2 and Z3 transi-
tions.
