Abstract—A simple formula was obtained that very accurately described changes in the temperature of the
nematic (cholesteric)–isotropic liquid phase transition in the homologous series for all known Tc(n) dependence
types (monotonic and nonmonotonic). The formula was confirmed for a wide range of calamite liquid crystals
of various chemical classes. Relations between monotonic and nonmonotonic Tc(n) functions were established
and confirmed for homologous series of various compounds.
