Abstract—The position of the first excited singlet state of an adsorbed pyrene–N,N-dimethylaniline exciplex
was found to depend on the temperature of thermal pretreatment of the surface of nonporous silica. This depen-
dence manifests itself by changes in the position of a fluorescence maximum in the spectrum of the exciplex
and is determined by dipole–dipole interaction of the complex with hydroxyl groups and water molecules on
the surface.
