Abstract—Adsorption of NO on model catalytic systems Mn/MgO for oxidative dimerization of methane was
studied at 150–350 K by IR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Interaction of NO with both Fs centers and man-
ganese ions in high-oxidation states yields nitrosonium ions (NO+). Adding small amounts of manganese results
in the formation of solid solutions on the surface of MgO. Increasing the concentration of manganese above
3wt % causes changes in the phase composition of the surface. Surface manganese cations in various oxidation
states (+2, +3, +4) can be active adsorption sites.
