Abstract—A simple theory is suggested to describe chemical reactions in which the dynamics of elementary
events is controlled by medium relaxation. Model equations treat relaxation as diffusion along a certain mode
and take into account sinks and sources. An analytical expression for the rate constant valid at any ratio between
relaxation and chemical transformation times is obtained. The kinetics of reversible reactions is analyzed in
detail. In particular, the influence of reverse reactions on the rates of forward reactions is considered.
