Abstract—The effect of temperature on the process of fluorescence quenching in the pyrene (1,2-benzan-
thracene)–amine–pyrogenic silica heterogeneous system is studied. The temperature dependence of the bimo-
lecular rate constant for quenching obtained through the model of the Gaussian distribution of the logarithm of
the first-order rate constants is described by the Arrhenius law. It is shown that the values of the apparent rate
constants depend on the concentrations of reagents and on the sample storage time. The small values of activa-
tion energy (~10 kJ/mol) are associated with the kinetic regime of the process, the rate of which is controlled
by rearrangements of the fluorophore–quencher complexes.
