Abstract—The theory of homogeneous nucleation and crystallization kinetics in binary systems developed by
the authors was used to calculate the behavior of the Fe–B system in wide temperature and boron concentration
ranges. It was shown that the concentration dependence of the free energy in the supercooled liquid (amor-
phous) phase can be described by the regular solution approximation. The crystalline phase requires the use of
semiempirical equations. The calculations performed to predict the concentration region within which Fe–B
alloys can occur in the amorphous state agree with the experimental data.
