Abstract—A large body of experimental data on the isothermal compressibility of diamines, diols, amino alco-
hols, and light and heavy water obtained on a unique direct-compression setup was used to estimate the elas-
ticity of the space network of hydrogen bonds of these substances. An inverse dependence of the modulus of
all-round compression on a number of defects in the three-dimensional network was discovered. A comparison
was made with the isothermal compressibility of liquids without the H-bond space network: liquid alkanes, ali-
phatic alcohols, benzene, and carbon tetrachloride.
