Abstract—The problem of describing stable and metastable liquid states and amorphous solid states within the
framework of approximate equations of the theory of liquids is investigated. Conditions are formulated under
which the Ornstein–Zernike equations are suitable for describing metastable states. Distribution functions
exhibiting features of the amorphous state are analyzed.
