AbstractThe results of combined experimental studies of the dynamic state of sea ice are presented. Empir-
ical relations between the effective stresses and the mesoscale kinematic parameters of the ice sheet are first
revealed. A macroscopic rheological relation based on the nonlinear model of the Maxwell body is proposed.
Estimates are obtained for the limiting stressed and strained state of sea ice and its effective physical and
mechanical parameters.
