Experimental Studies of Aerosol Optical Thickness
and Ozone in Large-City Environs

Abstract—In the period of June–September 1997, combined simultaneous measurements of aerosol and opti-
cal atmospheric parameters, total ozone content (TOC), and ultraviolet radiation fluxes were performed in the
vicinity of a large city both to make improvement in the procedures of combined monitoring and to study the
main characteristics of variability and relationship of these parameters. The measured data on the spectral aero-
sol optical thickness, atmospheric integral transparency, TOC, and UV–B radiation fluxes are given. For inter-
pretation of the data obtained, detailed information on the development of atmospheric synoptic processes and
on the fires that were spreading over the Leningrad region were used.
