Abstract—Different factors governing the radar reflectivity of radioactive clouds formed in the atmosphere
over the epicenter of a nuclear power plant accident are estimated. The development of convective clouds
formed after accidents due to significant overheating of air near the underlying surface is simulated numerically.
The radar reflectivity of these types of clouds and the maximum allowable range of their radar detection are
estimated for different stages of cloud development.
