AbstractThis work continues a series of papers devoted to studies of the interaction of baroclinic vortices on
the basis of an N-layer atmospheric model. Numerical simulations of the vertical structure (vorticity and zonal
velocity) of tropical cyclones are performed. It is shown that the N-level quasi-geostrophic model can reproduce
real geophysical fields. On the basis of simulations of characteristic variations in the surface velocity profile, a
baroclinic variant of the life cycle of a typical tropical cyclone is proposed.
