AbstractA time-dependent radiative convective climate model is used to estimate the effect of ozone loss on
the radiative balance of the earthtroposphere system. Estimates of the thermal relaxation time of the lower
stratosphere are presented. The influence of ozone drop pulses of an idealized and an actual shape on radiative
forcing is estimated. A comparison of results obtained by means of steady- state and time-dependent models
revealed that the steady-state estimates can overestimate the values of radiative forcing up to 40% depending
on the shape of ozone drop pulses.
