Abstract—A model problem of finding the lowest oscillation mode corresponding to a high-frequency branch
of acoustic-gravity waves is considered. An exact solution that describes the height profile of the vertical veloc
ity of the atmosphere is obtained for an analytically specified model height profile of atmospheric temperature.
An expression for the acoustic cutoff frequency A is determined. The effect of nonlinear dissipation of verti
cally propagating waves on this frequency is discussed.
