Vertical Statistical Structure of the Wind Field
in the Stratosphere and Mesosphere

Abstract—The statistical structure of the vertical wind distribution in the stratosphere and mesosphere is ana-
lyzed at three sites situated in different climatic zones. The first and second moments of the distribution of wind
velocity components are estimated. The spectrum of wind velocity variations in the stratosphere and mesos-
phere is studied for the equinox periods. The difference between the mean seasonal circulation regimes in the
spring and autumn is estimated.
