Abstract—The data of the SeaWiFS satellite ocean color scanner were used for the studies of the variability
of the biooptical characteristics of the Barents, White, Black, and Caspian seas and the Sea of Japan. We ana-
lyzed the relationships between the changes in the biooptical characteristics in the near-shore and open regions.
The data of the years 1999 and 2000 are compared.
