Abstract—Marine Pleistocene deposits of the Russian coasts significantly differ in their ages, spatial distribu-
tion, and stratigraphic composition. Their stratigraphic subdivision is based on a series of criteria supplement-
ing each other: paleontological content, chronological succession, transgressive cyclicity, and correlation with
climatic epochs. Based on these criteria, nine major stratigraphic units were distinguished in the marine Pleis-
tocene cross section corresponding to the horizons and subhorizons of regional stratigraphic scales.
