Some Features of the Bottom Structure
in the Eastern Part of the White Sea

Abstract—The results of high-resolution seismic profiling in the eastern part of the White Sea (Dvina Bay,
Gorlo, and Voronka) acquired with a PARASOUND parametric narrow-beam profiler are analyzed. The survey
was performed by the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, Russian Academy of Sciences on cruises 11 and 12 of
R/V Akademik Sergei Vavilov in 1997. The topography of the surface of the pre-Quaternary basement and the
fine structure of the recent sediments of glacial, glacial–marine, and marine origin are described. For Dvina
Bay, this description is especially detailed, while those for the Gorlo and Voronka are more generalized. In a
practical respect, the region studied is interesting due to its potentiality for diamond-bearing placer deposits.
