On the Origin and Evolution of the Atlantis, Cruiser, Meteor,
Rocket, and Krylov Seamounts in the Atlantic Ocean

Abstract—Principal features of morphostructure and distribution depth of the organogenic limestone cover
over seamounts are estimated from the data of echo sounding, dredging, and underwater photoimaging.
Together with the criteria of the new global tectonics, these data show that the Atlantis, Cruiser, and Meteor
seamounts have similar evolution histories and originated as a result of intraplate deformations of the earth’s
crust and lithosphere. From the same criteria, the Rocket and Krylov seamounts were presumably formed at a
constructive boundary between lithospheric plates in the region of an implicit triple junction point located
within the Mid-Atlantic Ridge segment from 12° to 20° N.
