On the Metrological Basis of Measurements
of the Electroconductivity of Seawater

Abstract—Measurements of salinity are considered in terms of the Practical Salinity Scale (PSS-78). It is
shown that the metrological provision of these measurements is deficient. For obtaining correct results, all mea-
surements should be made following the International Temperature Scale (ITS-90) because the use of other
scales leads to inaccurate results. The necessity to create a standard for highly accurate specific conductivity
corresponding to the current requirements in Russia is emphasized.
