AbstractProminent features of the large-scale circulation in the Ross Sea and the adjacent water area are
obtained on the basis of a stationary model of the ocean and a variational method of data assimilation from
hydrological section S4 along 67° S, data on tangential wind stress, and hydrological data. The flow fields cal-
culated agree well with other independent measurements of velocity in this region of the ocean. The allowance
for the influence of the boundary layer on the rigid boundaries of the calculation domain permits us to reveal
some features of near-shore circulation inherent in real currents over the continental slope of the Antarctic con-
tinent.
