Variability of Lidar Signal Features
When Remotely Sensing the Sea Surface

Abstract—The results of the sea surface laser remote sensing from an oceanographic platform in the Black Sea
are discussed. The dependence between the parameters of the laser light spots and wind velocity is shown to be
stochastic in nature. The dependencies of the light spot frequency, averaged over an ensemble of situations, and
of their mean intensity upon the wind velocity are ambiguous and feature a maximum and a minimum, respec-
tively. Estimates of the coefficient of variation are given for the parameters that describe the sequences of laser
beam reflections recorded under different hydrological and meteorological conditions.
